5 songs soundtracking my life right now
I’m an introvert, I really am. At different points in my life it hasn’t always looked to be true but when a persons idea of a good recharge is spending time alone in a bookstore...it’s a hint.
A month before Christmas I went for one of these little recharges and found myself wandering around Barnes and Nobel for about an hour. The last bit I was drooling over all the journals and I stumbled upon a promoted journal called “The 52 Lists Project”. Now, to be fair, I have had heard and seen this book before. I honestly brushed it off because it was too trendy, even having it’s own hashtag! After actually holding the book in my hand though, flipping through the beautiful pages, inspiring writing prompts and perfectly paired fonts, I was all but sold. I mean journal prompts to make lists? It’s like someone knows me!
I do confess that at first I tried to create my own…as E.Gilbert in Big Magic might say “imitating to innovate." Except trying to design something from scratch that is supposed to give you space to write AND is already there, asking you to sit down with a cup of coffee, is kind of counter-productive.
Alas, I bought it and I am so happy I did. I have been jumping around a bit, not completely going through the book in order. This week the list prompt I worked on was “List your life’s soundtrack”. Man, pre-parenthood I was often discovering new music and particularly looking up lyrics that spoke what I needed to say. And I absolutely loved making mix CDs (especially for a crush, each song really being a secret message) fully decorated with different colored sharpies! These days my music listening is done whilst making dinner or my ears are bleeding from hearing Raffi’s songs for children one too many times. With my limited exposure I picked my songs based on lyrics and enjoyability to sing while I’m floating around the house doing chores or playing with my littles.
In no particular order..
one // These words touch on my desperation to be present in all things.
two // “Villans” by Johnnyswim // In sum, marriage. It’s hard to love so deeply sometimes.
three // My new lullaby I sing to the boys when putting them down to bed.
four // “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen // No need for a caption.
five // From our valentines playlist from last year. Gives me all the feels and reminds me the grandness of loving each other for who we are now.
