The first books I consumed this year have been I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown & Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. I am currently reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It wasn’t necessarily intentional to exclusively start my year with black authors and literature but I’m happy I did. I felt that listening to Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech en route to our little family beach time was enriched by these books. I’m learning, and as heartbreaking as it can be to listen to the atrocities happening to black people in America, I want to keep listening and learning. ANYWAY all that was to bring you up to speed…this family outing was brought to you by MLK day. A day with so much meaning. Washington State’s way of celebrating is to make state parks discover pass free, meaning you can park fo’ free! Here are a few of my favorite photos I snapped during our hours there.
Each time I explore a new place here in the Northwest I am astounded by the beauty. And this winter sunshine has been nothing short of dreamy. Here’s to more family exploration weekends! If you’d like to check out Bay View State Park (located between two other fantastic trails & places: Padilla Bay & Shoreline Trail) here’s a link to google maps: map of bay view state park. Also, we use AllTrails for the majority of our adventures— I highly recommend— you can check our favorites out there too! Cheers!
